Namo Buddha, Bagmati Province, Nepal
International City of Peace
Compassion, Selflessness, Peace
“Legend has it that Prince Mahasatwa made the ultimate sacrifice by offering himself to a starving tigress and her newborn cubs, showcasing the values of compassion and selflessness.” Subarna Shrestha, Biswo Ulak and many colleagues started the first fledgling Cultural Peace Walk in 2018 after Namo Buddha, Nepal became an International City of Peace on July 22, 2018. They led a group along the mountainous villages of Nepal, stupa to stupa, prayer to prayer. The initiative has grown into GCPW Nepal, a 3-day Global Cultural Peace Walk with a profound core experience: “The walk commences from the iconic Swayambhunath Stupa and concludes at the sacred Na:Ma (Namo) Buddha Temple, believed to be the burial site of Prince Mahasatwa, dating back approximately 6000 years. International Cities of Peace is humbled to have been of help as Namo Buddha: City of Peace builds a sustaining aura of peace and compassion in this world.
